It was eighty years ago today....
It has been brought to my attention that eighty years ago today, women in the UK, for the first time, were given the same rights as men to vote . To the brave women (and men) who fought to make this possible, we can't thank you in person, but we can remember what you did and every time we put a mark on a ballot paper realise how far we've come. It may not be a perfect system, but we have our say. Here's hoping that everyone will one day have the right and freedom to do so.

Yes, my thoughts exactly! And i want to say thank you to my great great grandmother, Alice Hawkins who was the head of the Social & Political Union in Leicester, and played a part in women being given the vote! Cheers Old Girl, you did us proud!!!
Cath.
My DH's lecturer used to say that you could chart the end of civilisation from that date. (hm I think he only said it to get a rise from the women, much as I only post it now to give you a chance to harrumph about misogynist law lecturers).
And I am pleased to have the vote, I just wish there were someone worth voting for!
