Does it do what it says on the tin???

It has occurred to me after reading the fabulous posts over at the winemakers wife that I have not, despite what I have named my blog, not actually posted anything about tea (well one post early on but that doesn't count really) I feel therefore I must explain. To me afternoon tea is a philosophy. I like to stop everyday at about 4 (even/especially at work if I can) to have some tea. I think it is important to stop, refresh and give yourself 5 mins or longer if you can manage it, I've known afternoon tea sessions last over an hour at my Mum and Dad's. I like to go the whole hog at the weekend too and have little sandwiches and perhaps a scone or a cake or a biscuit (I'm really into Sainsbury's organic oat biscuits at the moment...mmmmm) a pot of my fave Royal Blend (from Fortnum's so a bit of a treat) or Glengettie tea, a book and the radio or a nice film, usually in the chair in this photo! In that way, this blog also provides me with a little break, a chance to chat about my day, what I'm up to, what is making me angry/happy/sad/excited so that's why there really isn't that much about tea.... although its got me thinking for my next post!!!!!

Tea is a lovely ritual, I've been harking on about this for so long, but it has always been a part of my family's traditions. It didn't always come from a silver teapot, nor did we always have time to stop fully, but it was something that makes me feel very safe and certain.

My mum bought me a book called "If Teacups Could Talk", which is absolutely lovely, packed with ideas for the loveliest cuppa. Speaking of which, I think it's time for me to have a cup myself! We have Ringtons Organic - I love getting my tea from someone with a basket packed full of goodies, who arrives promptly on the door with a smile every fortnight. :)

Well, I must say, I have not been drinking much hot tea lately... However, I love your idea of taking a break at 4pm and having a nice warm cup of tea. I work at Stanford Univ. from 7am to 4pm and by the time I get home it’s roughly 4:30 and I need a snack. What a nice little routine I could set up for myself! A little something to nibble, and a nice cup of tea. My best friend Becca and my brother Ahren are huge tea drinkers. When they come to my house in the afternoon I always make them a teatime snack, and they find it civilized and restorative. What fun we have chatting over our mugs! You have inspired me to treat myself to this each afternoon from now on.

Do you know, I can't remember the last time I had a cup of tea (hangs head low in shame). When I'm ill or on a diet (same thing really) I do like a herbal tea and I will pretty much drink anything of that variety including nettle - which tastes like grass really, but I still enjoy it. See, now I want a cup of tea! Just can't bear to be left out. Must be nice sitting in that chair with the radio on...xx

Sitting in the comfy chair, listening to the Archers (you need a Roberts digital radio to be able to do that ,really, so you can delay the start for 3 hours) with a nice pot if decent tea and a toasted tea cake slathered in butter.... Mmmm. I have a different life at 4; standing in the kitchen screeching 'hang up that bloody coat!' for the nth time, getting three ribenas and switching on the kettle for the first of several attempts to make a decent cuppa. i love days out when I get a chance to have a proper teabreak, even more so when it's a cream tea.

My mum is the only person in Australia that can make a decent cup of tea! Do you ever remember tasting her cuppas?

Jenny's cuppas are the only decent ones in the whole of Australia! You would have had one or two in your time!?
